Fine Wind, Clear Morning — known simply as Red Fuji — is among the most celebrated of Katsushika Hokusai’s Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji, published around 1830–1832. The mountain fills the frame in a deep cinnabar red, caught at dawn against a sky of pale blue bands, its bare lower slopes contrasting with the snow near the summit. Hokusai distilled the view into a pattern of startling simplicity, a study of form and color that helped shape the European image of Japan and influenced the Impressionists.
