Botticelli’s mythological landmark shows Venus arriving at the shore on a scallop shell, blown by the winds Zephyr and Aura while one of the Hours awaits with a flowered mantle. Among the first large-scale canvases of classical mythology produced since antiquity, it was painted for the Medici family and now hangs in the Uffizi Gallery in Florence.
